We kicked off our brand new sermon series with one of Jesus' most famous stories - The Prodigal Son (Luke 15v11-32). In this story Jesus is responding to a question from the religious leaders of his day. The Pharisees approach him and ask, “Jesus how come no matter where you are there are all kinds of messed up people following you around.” Jesus' response provides a uniquely comprehensive vision of The Gospel.
1. The nature of our own sinfulness,
2. The mercy of our heavenly Father even in light of that sinfulness
3. The beauty of the encounter when finally we come home to that mercy.
You are more loved than you could possibly know. Our gracious Father does not add conditions to his love for us. He doesn’t ask us to clean up our lives first. He simply invites us to hand over our insecurities, let go of our moralistic religion, and come home. The question is not if God is ready for us to come home. The question is: Are we ready to finally stop running and join the party?
This week our groups are following along with the Freeway Guide - a beautiful, interactive guide built upon God's amazing grace and a personal exploration of our own pain and loss. You can pick up your guide at any of our Gateway Groups. Suggested donation $10.
If you have not already, Small Group leaders can pick up these guides and DVD's this week at the church office. You can also stream the introductory videos at http://potsc.com/videos/
