Lent Guide | Week 3
Theme: Waiting
Do we know why and for what we’re waiting?
If you’re in line to order at Lachele's Fine Foods, it’s likely you know perfectly well why and for what you’re waiting. But what about in your discipleship to Jesus? Have we considered the stillness that seeks our acquaintance along the way?
Lent invites us to such a stillness. Not to empty ourselves. Instead, the silence is where we encounter the one settled into the silent spaces awaiting his beloved.
-
Lord, help me turn aside to your presence. Hold my gaze and do not look away, even when I do. In quiet and rest, I seek you. May I hear the sound of your voice?
-
Urgency no more. Pace sustained. One, two, three miles an hour, a spirited speed.
Jesus, may my dis-ease at slowness subside as I settle into your care. Set wide the net of your love that my heart may find finally sway into delight.
(As you attend to each day’s scripture consider: Who am I becoming?)
-
If you speak and I do not listen can I hear you? If you move and I stand still, can I follow you? Picture the gentleness of Jesus - his smiling eyes, the of his voice. Where is he? Ask to hear him, to see him, to know him. Set your attention on him.
(Consider journaling what you notice. Images. Memories. Etc.)
-
I thank you, Jesus. You attend to me in love.

Sunday, March 13th, 2022 - Psalm 27
When accusing voices rise what truth will you speak? Where is your stronghold?
Monday, March 14th, 2022 - Luke 7:11–17
Pause, think, and listen. What word might Jesus have for you today? You can carry on as if this isn’t how the Divine works, but if you’re willing to consider his word; pause, think, listen. Now, think and pray about what it means for his life-giving kingdom to come to you, your family, your life
Tuesday, March 15th, 2022 - Luke 7:18–28
Does Jesus shock you? Does he stir up your insides? Talk to him about this.
Wednesday, March 16th, 2022 - Luke 8:22–39
A prayer: Lord, teach me to open my ears to the sounds of the terrified. May I discern the cries of the oppressed?
Sit and consider what Spirit is saying to you this day.
Thursday, March 17th, 2022 - Luke 8:40–56
Do we truly think that we can reach out and touch Jesus? More, do we imagine a Jesus in whom power resides? Ponder the power of Jesus. Now, hear Jesus’ words afresh, “Don’t be afraid. Just believe.”
Friday, March 18th, 2022 - Luke 9:18–27
Imagine what it would be like to hear Jesus declare his death. Can life come forth in the face of death? Ask Jesus what life looks like for this community in this season.
Saturday, March 19th, 2022 - Luke 13:1–9
A prayer: Lord, I seek shelter in you this day, and I relinquish my need to self-protect and say you are my shelter. Amen.
