Counter Cultural Inclusion
Group Discussion Guide
Each Sunday we come together we offer an open invitation into the way of Jesus. An invitation to enter into sacred rhythms - to draw near to God through singing, giving, learning, and praying.
As a community who desires renewal in Des Moines as it is in Heaven, we recognize that we cannot offer what we ourselves do not have. We cannot lead where we ourselves have not been led; in turn, these questions aim at reflection. Reflecting on God’s word and making space for his leadership.
After watching or listening consider the following discussion questions as a large group or in groups of three to four:
What stood out to you about this week's teaching?
When you hear the word, “inclusion” what comes to mind?
How does Jesus challenge our culture’s vision for inclusion; and how does Jesus challenge our vision of inclusion?
What challenges do you encounter when extending the welcome of Jesus?
Has this season this amplified that challenge?
What, if any, of the diagnostic pride questions resonated with you?
How does Jesus’ humility (Phil. 2:5-8) confront our pride?
How might we be inclusive in the name of Jesus and receive Jesus’ exclusive call for allegiance?
“Oftentimes in life, we think I can’t get through this. There’s no way God, you’ve got to take it away, it’s the only way I’m going to get through this obstacle, this pain, this situation in life. And although there are times in life when God does remove things; there are also many times in life when God doesn’t remove the pain, he doesn't take away the mountain. No, he changes our feet so we can scale the mountain in the midst of pain, in the midst of a devastating season God will train us.” - Suzy Silk
How might God be changing your feet right now? Where are you denying his invitation?
Where do you need God to change desperation into dependence? Consider praying for the answer you give, “I believe, help my unbelief.”
