The Last Supper

Group Discussion Guide

Each Sunday we come together we offer an open invitation into the way of Jesus. An invitation to enter into sacred rhythms - to draw near to God through singing, giving, learning, and praying.

As a community who desires renewal in Des Moines as it is in Heaven, we recognize that we cannot offer what we ourselves do not have. We cannot lead where we ourselves have not been led; in turn, these questions aim at reflection. Reflecting on God’s word and making space for his leadership.

After watching or listening consider the following discussion questions as a large group or in groups of three to four:

What stood out to you about this week’s teaching?

  • As we think about the no-name woman in the story, what do you imagine she was hopeful to accomplish by breaking the jar and anointing Jesus?

  • Some of those who witnessed the event didn’t agree with the extravagant use of the perfume. What do you think of their objection? & How do you feel when your expectations go unmet?

  • Have you ever felt like your devotion doesn’t mean much? Or, conversely, have you ever felt like your devotion is taken advantage of by a church?

    • How might Jesus guide you through either side of the above questions?

  • How is God’s character on display in Mark 14:1-11?
