Group Discussion Guide

Each Sunday we come together we offer an open invitation into the way of Jesus. An invitation to enter into sacred rhythms - to draw near to God through singing, giving, learning, and praying.

As a community who desires renewal in Des Moines as it is in Heaven, we recognize that we cannot offer what we ourselves do not have. We cannot lead where we ourselves have not been led; in turn, these questions aim at reflection. Reflecting on God’s word and making space for his leadership.

After watching or listening consider the following discussion questions as a large group or in groups of three to four:

  • What stood out from the teaching?

  • How does this make you think about taking the Lord’s name in vain differently?

  • What does it look like to carry the name of Yahweh with fidelity to Jesus?

  • Share your thoughts on Jesus’ prayer with respect to the world and the Father protecting us from the evil one.

  • What are ways that we’re complicit in worldly practices? Where can our community (Gateway) repent and come under the care of Yahweh’s name?

  • What type of lies do you notice competing with truth in the church? What corresponding biblical truth can pray over those lies? (e.g. Shame for past sexual sin. Lie: “I am not worthy of love.” Truth - I am a new creation in Christ Jesus, the old is gone, the new has come. I have an advocate in the Holy Spirit. I can cast my anxiety on Jesus for he cares for me.”
