A Prayer of Faith • John 11:41-43

Group Discussion Guide

Each Sunday we come together we offer an open invitation into the way of Jesus. An invitation to enter into sacred rhythms - to draw near to God through singing, giving, learning, and praying.

As a community who desires renewal in Des Moines as it is in Heaven, we recognize that we cannot offer what we ourselves do not have. We cannot lead where we ourselves have not been led; in turn, these questions aim at reflection. Reflecting on God’s word and making space for his leadership.

After watching or listening consider the following discussion questions as a large group or in groups of three to four:

  • 10/10 - John 11 - A Prayer of Faith

    • What stood out to you from John 11:1-46? A new insight? A fresh perspective? (Consider reading this passage aloud. Maybe taking turns in your group. This takes approximately 5 minutes.)

    • Grief & Glory:

      • How does going through grief in community differ from going through grief alone?

        • And how might our church become the type of people who stand in the gap of grief together?

      • How do Jesus’ actions & prayer in this passage bring glory to God?

    • Prayer & Power

      • In John 11:43 Jesus cries out, “Lazarus, come out!” What death is Jesus calling you from? (If this feels like a question you would do well to sit with for a while before responding, consider what death Jesus is calling our church/community out of?)

      • How might the power of Jesus’ prayer change how we pray?

    • Consider praying for those in desperate need of life.
