John 17

Group Discussion Guide
Each Sunday we come together we offer an open invitation into the way of Jesus. An invitation to enter into sacred rhythms - to draw near to God through singing, giving, learning, and praying.
As a community who desires renewal in Des Moines as it is in Heaven, we recognize that we cannot offer what we ourselves do not have. We cannot lead where we ourselves have not been led; in turn, these questions aim at reflection. Reflecting on God’s word and making space for his leadership.
After watching or listening consider the following discussion questions as a large group or in groups of three to four:
What stood out to you from this prayer of Jesus in John 17? (Perhaps have one or more people read the chapter aloud)
What stood out from the teaching?
Do you incorporate upward, outward and forward types on prayer in your own prayer life? One more than another?
What are some ways you praise and glory God in your own prayer time?
What are your thoughts on being in the world and not of the world? How have you lived that out in your own life? What about living that way has been the most difficult for you? What has been beneficial about living that way?
Have you experienced opportunities for sanctification in recent months? Have there been times in your past that you’ve experience refinement that you’ve been grateful for? What was good about it? What was hardest about it?
Unity was described as “an all-encompassing relational reality that binds believers together with each other and their Lord - a unity that can be achieved only through the regenerating and sanctifying work of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” Have you seen or experienced this kind of unity in the body of Christ? If you have, share about that experience. If you have not, what do you think it takes to reach for that kind of unity?
