The Past | Part One
Group Discussion Guide
Each Sunday we come together we offer an open invitation into the way of Jesus. An invitation to enter into sacred rhythms - to draw near to God through singing, giving, learning, and praying.
As a community who desires renewal in Des Moines as it is in Heaven, we recognize that we cannot offer what we ourselves do not have. We cannot lead where we ourselves have not been led; in turn, these questions aim at reflection. Reflecting on God’s word and making space for his leadership.
After watching or listening consider the following discussion questions as a large group or in groups of three to four:
What stood out to you in this week’s teaching?
How would you describe your family or origin?
How does the idea of dealing with your past make you feel? Scared? Terrified? Sad? Guilty?
Check out: Genesis 26:1-11 and discuss the following:
Here Isaac is repeating the sin of his father - lying about his wife, calling her his sister, and exposing the woman he loved to great danger to save his own skin. In what ways have you seen generational sins like this one play out in your own family? (Please only share what you feel ready to share with your Community)
Have you ever thought about sins in your own life going back to your parents’ lives? What about your grandparents’ or great-grandparents’ lives?
If so, what did you find?
Do you live with a sense of fear that you will pass on a generational sin to children if you choose to have them?
